Risklayer contributes as climate risk data partner for the Tourism Panel on Climate Change 2023
In the development of the TPCC (Tourism Panel on Climate Change) 2023 Tourism and Climate Change Stocktake, Risklayer played a pivotal role as the climate risk data partner, leading the development climate impact models that contributed to this comprehensive report. This Stocktake, unveiled on December 12, 2023 at COP28 in the UAE, serves as a critical resource aimed at informing tourism policymakers, stakeholders, and climate change policymakers alike.
Risklayer's expertise was harnessed as data partner for the TPCC in developing cutting-edge CMIP6 climate models to analyze tourism's exposure to a diverse range of 19 climate hazards. Under a moderate emission scenario (RCP4.5).
The Tourism and Climate Change Stocktake 2023 drives the vision of a climate-resilient global tourism sector that aligns with the Paris Climate Agreement's goals. The report's 40 metrics and 24 key findings span across critical areas, including sector emissions, mitigation efforts, climate impacts, adaptation strategies, and key enablers of climate action, including tourism climate policy, climate finance, and capacity-building. This partnership represents a significant step towards advancing science-based climate action in the tourism sector, crucial for achieving a sustainable and resilient future for global tourism.
