Global Tourism Climate Exposure Layer (G-TCEL)

Developed the world's first tourism-specific climate exposure dataset, combining CMIP6 climate projections, tourism assets, destination typologies, and regional tourism statistics to identify climate risk hotspots across thousands of tourism destinations worldwide.

Global Tourism Typology Database

Providing the first global tourism typology database, enabling climate risks to be assessed within the context of destination-specific tourism characteristics and visitor experiences.

Destination Risk Profiles

Generated destination-specific climate risk profiles for pilot destinations in the Canary Islands, Cook Islands, Colorado, Queenstown, Koh Samui and the Dolomites by combining tourism exposure scores with vulnerability and adaptation readiness indicators, providing a transparent and scalable framework for tourism resilience assessment.

Risklayer led the development of the methodology, climate analytics, and tourism exposure datasets underpinning Destination Risk Scan, a pioneering initiative created with Travel Forward, CELTH, and international tourism partners. The project provides the first globally consistent framework for assessing climate risk and resilience across tourism destinations.

  • Pilot Destination Validation: Applied and refined the methodology through six pilot destinations: Canary Islands, Cook Islands, Colorado, Queenstown, Koh Samui, and the Dolomites.
